Fashion brand shopping issues are prevalent in today’s dynamic marketplace. Explore common problems and insights to navigate these challenges effectively.
Most complaints about buying clothes online come down to the same few things: the garment felt thinner than expected, the size was wrong, or the sustainability claim turned out to mean nothing. Each of those has a practical cause and a practical fix. Here is what goes wrong, and what to check before ordering.
Price alone predicts very little. What predicts quality is stated specification: fabric weight, fibre composition, and construction details like ribbed collars, neck tape and side seams.
A useful comparison point — our Oversized Heavyweight Tee is 237 g/m² combed ring-spun cotton with a reinforced 1×1 ribbed collar and side-seamed construction. Every one of those is checkable. "Premium cotton" is not. The background is in Fabric Weight Explained.
Sizing varies between brands because there is no shared standard. The only real fix is a brand telling you plainly how its sizing runs.
Ours runs European and generous. Take your usual size for the intended oversized fit, or size down for a closer cut — that note is on every relevant page, including the Wide Collar Tee at 200 g/m². Where a piece is cut close rather than loose, like the Micro Rib Raglan Baby Tee, we say that too.
For trousers, an adjustable waist removes most of the guesswork. Our Everyday Wide-Leg Pants run 2XS to 4XL on one block with an adjustable waist.
The distinction is whether a claim is independently audited. GOTS and OCS certify organic cotton content. GRS certifies recycled content. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifies chemical safety. Each names a body that checked.
Our Pure Cotton Crewneck at 350 g/m² carries GOTS, OCS and OEKO-TEX, and is PETA-Approved Vegan. If a brand cannot name the certification, treat the claim as marketing.
Production volume matters too. Made to order means nothing is produced before it is bought — the reasoning is in Made to Order vs Made to Stock.
This is the most common complaint and the easiest to avoid. Screens cannot convey weight, hand or opacity. Check the gram weight instead: below roughly 180 g/m² a tee will drape and may show what is underneath; above 220 it holds a silhouette.
Colour is the other half. Garment-dyed pieces are deliberately uneven — like our Garment-Dyed Oversized Tee. Mill-dyed pieces hold their colour through washing, as with the Mill-Dyed Oversized Hoodie.
Limited runs are the practical answer. We release fifty designs a year, each carrying the hare, and do not restock. When a run ends, that design is retired. The current range is in Grozavu Icons.
Why does sizing vary so much between brands?
There is no shared standard. Check whether the brand states how its sizing runs and whether trousers have an adjustable waist.
Why do items look different online than in person?
Lighting and editing change colour, and no photo conveys weight or opacity. The gram weight is the reliable substitute.
How do I avoid poor-quality fast fashion?
Look for a stated fabric weight, named certifications and construction details. Their absence is the signal.
What weight should a good t-shirt be?
200 to 237 g/m² for a structured everyday tee. 140 to 170 for summer weights.
Which sustainability certifications actually mean something?
GOTS, OCS, GRS and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — all independently audited.
